Perry was born on July 25, 1968 in Chicago, Illinois to Laurie Metcalf Perry and Jeff Perry. She made her first appearances in television shows in the role of Jackie Harris, a character that was played by her mother on the ABC show Roseanne. However, her parents did not permit her to perform until she turned an adult due to the negative effects that stress could have on their daughter. Perry stated that she was nervous to be an actor in high school but began doing shows in theater classes at Northwestern University as a way to connect with people following her transfer from Boston University. Perry made her debut in New York after graduation, performing in minor role in Law & Order: Criminal Intent. Then, homesickness led to Perry come back to California and find work as a stage actress. The Other Place was performed by her mother and her on Broadway in 2013 Perry was in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize winner Anna Christie, along with Kevin McKidd. This was performed at West Los Angeles' Odyssey Theatre Ensemble. In 2016, Perry appeared on nine episodes of ABC's thriller The Family. In 2017 she had a recurring role on the ABC Political thriller Scandal starring her father. The same year she was cast as a young version of Mary Cooper (Sheldon Cooper's mother) in Young Sheldon, a spin-off of the CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory again as a teen version of her mother's. The role was given to her through audition, regardless of the fact that she was a cousin with the character.
