Pickler lived in a challenging environment. At the age of two, her mother ran away to protect her from an abusive family. Then, in 1995, she re-entered into the world of Pickler and was granted the custody rights. This did not go as planned. When she turned 12, the court gave back Pickler to her grandparents who took care of her until she reached adulthood. Pickler was required to care of her kids without parents. In the absence of parents, Pickler's schedule was so busy that she could not attend school. She instead began in the process of learning to look after her family members at a younger age.
